Hidden away on the Adriatic Sea along the Dalmatian Coast north of Trogir is the Mediterranean holiday village of Marina, Croatia. With its beautiful sandy and pebble beaches combined with a laid back atmosphere this is a village where you relax.
Marina is in the orbit of Split, Trogir and the Dalmatian Islands. For those who seek to raise their pulse much above slumber then the two nearby cities and indeed buzzing island of Hvar on the Croatian Adriatic are the order of the day.
For a cultural fix do explore the local wine cellars which have their own cultural history. The City Tower sits right next to the marina - this was built on a small island but now sits square with the dock. The churches of St Luke and St John will intrigue too, perhaps before the thirst after righteousness in one of the nearby konobas.
You will find that at Marina, yacht charter is easy with Borrow a Boat. If you are on a bareboat charter you only have to show your sailing qualifications, pay the deposit and remaining fee and then inspect your charter yacht before wandering off to sea.
Marina's marina is called Agana Marina and it holds up to 134 boats - whether a sailboat charter, catamaran charter, motorboat charter or gulet charter you will find the charter yacht you need here.
After the stresses and strains of the rat race at home you will appreciate the sleepiness of this enchanted and beautiful village. Kastela with its bridge connection to Trogir is just 12km along the Mediterranean coast, and round the island to the south again you will find the cosmopolitan city of Split.
On a sailing vacation out of Agana Marina, you can head north to the Kornati National Park - quite beautiful islands that are the toast of Croatia. Heading south you can reach Dubrovnik either on a week long circuit or as a one-way charter. A day out on the water can get you to the Dalmatian Islands that include the party town of Hvar and secluded coves where, as with life in Marina, you can forget life altogether.
Split Airport
Split Airport is the main airport for the area, and has flights from European and international airports beyond. Split is a two-bus journey from Marina, with the airport shuttle taking you down to Split Bus Station and then a connecting bus on to Marina or you can get a taxi.
There are four marinas in range of Marina - Marina's marina itself (Agana Marina), as well as those at Kastela and Trogir.

What will your sailing route be? Dubrovnik or the Kornati Islands? The Dalmatian Islands and Sibenik Islands. Zadar. Marina is within reach of these stunning destinations on a week or two's trip up the Adriatic coast.
7 days - Marina to Dubrovnik: If a port every day is to your taste then you can head down through Dalmatia to Dubrovnik and back. At a slower pace, perhaps with a full day in the Mljet national park as you go - you can go on a one-way charter as so many people on a sailing holiday do.
7 days - Kornati Islands and Zadar A mix of the cosmopolitan and utterly chilled, this is a week long trip where you can island hop north to Zadar and coastal hop back. While the Kornati National Park is among the most beautiful spots on the Adriatic, a short trip up the nearby down the Croatian coast past Sibenik is going to be a pleasure too.
14 days - Dubrovnik and day trips: with the southerly point of the sailing holiday just 130km or so away you can spend the odd afternoon ashore and get a little depth as you go. Do visit the Elafiti Islands, take your time in the Dalmatian Islands and lose yourself in the Mljet National Park as you go. Trogir, Split and Hvar are within a day or so of Marina too.
The sailing season runs from late April to October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter. The ACI Marina chain also adds 20% to their berthing fees at this time of year. If you can charter outside of the peak period you will find it far quieter and less expensive. The climate is mild most of the sailing season with occasional rain showers.
April and May: There will be occasional rainy days but temperatures sit between 22-28C or higher. Winds are generally NW, 10-20 knots
June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat! Temperatures are from 26C and up to the mid 30s. Wind is generally NW 5-10 knots
September-October: In this part of the world it rains more in October and the temperature falls away to 10 degrees C in the evenings, though it can get up to a comfortable 20C on an autumn day. Winds can get up to 20 knots.
The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
The marina in Marina, Croatia is Marina Agana. This has 134 moorings. There are three nearby in Kastela and Trogir.
Do you like buzzing and busy? Marina isn't really for that - though that's a good thing for many. July and August are so busy that it can be a little stressful when it comes to mooring. It is also the hottest time of year. Why not then go during school term time in say, September when the water is still warm and weather benign?
You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.
If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.
The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
