Why a Luxury Charter

A luxury charter Sardinia gives you the perfect opportunity to explore this fashionable and beautiful part of the West Mediterranean Sea. Whether enjoying the hotspots of Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo or Santa Teresa , or chilling out on the la Maddalena Archipelago or nearby Pontine Islands, you will find that a luxury yacht sailing holiday is one of the best ways of getting the best of what's ashore while having privacy aboard your luxury charter yacht between occasions.

Centred on the Emerald Coast, Sardinia has long been a rival for the French Riviera and Italian Riviera as a Western Mediterranean escape. The stunning scenery of beautiful beaches, wild mountains and islands off Sardinia's coast are why people view Sardinia as an important yacht charter destination. Combined with the fashionable resorts, this makes for one of the best places for a sailing holiday in the region.

Destinations

Whether a sailing yacht or motor yacht, you will have crew looking after your needs and sailing the vessel between locations as you enjoy your Sardinia yacht charter.

Northern Sardinia between Santa Teresa and Olbia is the best place to enjoy your Sardinia yacht charter. Centred on the high class resort of Porto Cervo with its superyacht marina and excellent boutiques, clubs and restaurants, the town is built for entertainment.

Heading north up the Costa Smeralda you soon find the La Maddalena Islands, with beauiful beaches and coves where you can drop anchor and have the place to yourself to enjoy the stunning scenery.

Beyond La Maddalena Island are a number of quieter resorts with many a beautiful beach and places to perhaps enjoy your water toys aboard your charter yacht.

Santa Teresa is on the far north of the island with very good beaches and views of Corsica to the north. From Santa Teresa you may visit the Lavezzi Islands on a sailing trip to Porto Vecchio on the SE of Corsica, or you may head south.

To the south of Porto Cervo is the excellent marina and resort of Porto Rotondo - a lot more laid back and relaxed than Porto Cervo, this is a great charter destination in its own right. South again, you will reach Olbia, home of the island's main airport and another excellent marina, Marina di Olbia from which you may begin your sailing holiday exploring northern Sardinia. Further south again are charming resorts like Cala Gonone with many beautiful sandy beaches and quite stunning scenery with the high mountains a short drive from the coast.

On a longer yacht rental you can get as far as the Aeolian Islands off Sicily or the Amalfi Coast on the Italian mainland.

Luxury Charter Sardinia

With your luxury charter yacht as a base, the crew will look after your needs while you focus on fun and relaxation. The Costa Smeralda, though relatively new to tourism, is a modern day rival for the Italian Riviera and French Riviera.

With the luxury charter yacht as a base you can go ashore at different locations to enjoy socialising and the best restaurants ashore at one location and then perhaps disappear to rebalance off a quiet island the next. Often the boat charter will carry water toys such as speed boats and jet skis for you to blast around a quiet bay and have fun out of the sight and sound of others.

A Sardinia yacht charter is best enjoyed in the high summer months of July and August. The weather is reliably warm, and the sea breezes can make for some great times on a sailing yacht or catamaran.

A luxury crewed yacht charter in Sardinia is one of the safest, most luxurious and most convenient ways to travel and enjoy beautiful locations from the coastline of Cala Gonone and the the La Maddalena archipelago, to the buzz of Porto Cervo.

Types of Luxury Yacht charter

Here are a selection of charter yachts that you may choose from to enjoy on your Sardinia boat rental.

Catamaran

Whether a sailing catamaran or power catamaran, these have a wide beam and shallow draft and make for spacious and comfortable luxury yachts. Even the smaller vessels (15m LOA and up) will have en suite heads in the staterooms, and can often carry water toys like jet skis and paddleboards aboard.

Motor Boat

Whether a catamaran or motor yacht these are faster and often have far more space. Expect a more comfortable, premium experience on these top end charter vessels.

Sailing Yacht

Whether a classic racing yacht or a more modern cruiser racer, these sleek, stylish and more traditional vessels still have the space you need but can sail in near silence with just the sound of the wind and waves as you move along under wind power alone.

Gulet

Great for larger groups, gulets are traditional crewed sailing yachts and motor yachts that are ideal bases for a Sardinia yacht charter.

Weather conditions in Sardinia:

Luxury yacht charters are best when augmented by great weather. The perfect time for a premium charter in Sardinia are:

Early Season (May to June): The NE maestrale from the Rhone Valley may cool the region a bit and the seas are cooler after winter. Sea temperatures can be 15 degrees C but air temperatures can touch the comfortable low 20s.

Peak Season (July and August): Sea breezes will make for great sailing but it can get very hot with temperatures into the 40s. There will be little in the way of rain, but you will be grateful for any in the heat.

Late Season (September and early October): The sea is going to be warm - in the 20s C - yet the air cools down to the high teens and 20s, making for a great time for a swim! Winds - notably the maestrale - can pick up and you may find it rains more too.

When to Visit Sardinia

Sailors will enjoy the Solaris Cup out of Porto Rotondo in late May/early June. Out of Porto Cervo the annual Lora Piana superyacht regatta in June blasts around the La Maddalena Island group - something you may be able to participate in on a luxury sailing yacht with a dedicated racing skipper to perhaps even go for Line Honours!

July and August are when the marinas are at their busiest and most expensive. It is very crowded, even out on the islands. Most of the social events are at their best at this time of year though and the buzz is a good one.

For those after a quieter time after the crowds have gone, try to visit Sardinia in September. The seas are bath-warm still and the sun is comfortably - not fiercely - warm. Though many shorreside establishments close, it can be a more authentic side to Sardinia.
