Why a Superyacht Charter

The Southeast Asia kingdom of Thailand is a rich mix of ecological and geological wonders with a rich culture and cuisine that makes it a charter destination without comparison. From its beautiful beaches to coral reefs and limestone spires, combined with great tasting food and great beach parties, you will soon find a luxury yacht charter with a difference!

Destinations

On your Thailand yacht charter you can explore the Gulf of Thailand, Phang Nga Bay and Andaman Sea on your superyacht charter.

Gulf of Thailand

Arriving in Bangkok in the north of the Gulf of Thailand, you have a choice of locations to enjoy on your charter yacht.

South of Bangkok on the western facing coast of the gulf you will find Hua Hin. Hua Hin is Thailand's first holiday resort and was discovered by Thai royalty in the 1920s. Today it is a bustling cosmopolitan centre with a great beach but is also ideal as a city break in its down right.

South, off the east coast of the Malay Peninsula you will find the islands of Koh Samui. Koh Samui and other islands nearby like Koh Tao is the original 'out of the way' backpacker destination with lots going on ashore and on the beaches. There are no marinas here but moored off an island like Koh Tao you will soon find a quiet island paradise.

A reasonable sail to the NW of Koh Samui and off the eastern facing coast of the gulf is Koh Chang. While Koh Samuiis more a victim of its own success, Koh Chang and neighbouring islands such as Koh Muk are very much the Thailand everyone seeks that has been caricatured and some say lost due to tourism. Expect coral reefs without masses of tourism and beautiful beaches that you might have all to yourself.

Andaman Sea Islands

On a Phuket luxury yacht charter you may wish to set sail for the outer islands of the Andaman Sea. The Similan Islands and nearby Surin Island have world renowned coral reefs but are a bit of a trek - ideally done on a crewed yacht charter. Unlike Phang Nga Bay, a Surin Island and Similan Islands yacht charter is best done in the dry season when the Monsoon is quieter.

Phang Nga Bay

With Phuket the main island bordering Phang Nga Bay, this is the busiest place of all for Thai tourism. The bulk of Thailand charter yachts are based here.

Phang Nga Bay itself is renowned for its limestone spires and unique islands such as James Bond Island, named after the movie where a bad guy had his lair in what is now known as James Bond Island.

Hollywood has shone the spotlight on other parts of the Andaman Sea too. The Phi Phi island of Phi Phi Lee was made famous in the movie The Beach, though the Phi Phi Lee beach was supposed to be in one of the islands off Koh Samui. Ko Phi Phi Island is renowned for its beauty by day but also its wild beach parties that go through the night.

For a bit of quiet you might Racha Island, renowned for its beautiful beaches and tropical fish. An alternative to Racha Yai is Koh Hong. Koh Hong is another quieter alternative to enjoy on your superyacht charter.

Superyacht Charter Thailand

With your luxury charter yacht as a base, the crew will look after your needs while you focus on fun and relaxation. Whether enjoying a beach barbecue on Koh Tao or enjoying the fun ashore at Phi Phi Island, your charter yacht is a great base on which to enjoy your Thailand yacht charter vacation to the full.

With the luxury private yacht as a base you can go ashore at different locations to enjoy socialising and the best restaurants ashore at Hua Hin and then perhaps disappear to relbalance off a quiet island like Koh Muk the next. Often the boat charter will carry water toys such as speed boats and jet skis for you to blast around a quiet bay and have fun out of the sight and sound of others.

A Thailand luxury yacht charter is best enjoyed in the northern hemisphere winter months with November and December being the peak season. The weather is reliably warm, and the NE Monsoon can make for some great times on a sailing yacht or catamaran.

A Thai luxury crewed yacht charter is one of the safest, most luxurious and most convenient ways to travel and enjoy beautiful locations from Koh Chang to a quiet retreat on your yacht charter holiday.

Types of Luxury Yacht charter

Here are a selection of charter yachts that you may choose from to enjoy on your Thailand superyacht charter, whether on a bareboat charter basis or crewed yacht charter basis.

Thailand's government has only recently permitted foreign flagged superyachts to operate on Thai water and that has made for a wider range of charter yachts to enjoy here.

Catamaran

Whether sailing yachts or power catamarans, these charter yachts have a wide beam and shallow draft and make for spacious and comfortable luxury yachts. Even the smaller vessels (15m LOA and up) will have en suite heads in the cabins, and can often carry water toys like jet skis and paddleboards aboard. You can have a crewed catamaran charteror bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel and what you want from a sailing holiday.

Motor Yacht

From a catamaran to a luxury motor yacht charter these are faster and often have far more space. Expect a more comfortable, premium experience on motor yacht, ranging from a mini cruiser to top end superyacht charter vessels. You can have crewed yacht charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel with the skipper and crew looking after you.

The larger super and mega yacht vessels are often available on a private yacht charter basis as a means of escaping to an out of the way place without distraction. These will have water toys such as a speed boat, jet ski and diving equipment so you can enjoy water sports even without having to go ashore.

Sailing Yacht

Whether a classic yacht or more modern cruiser racer sailing yacht, these sleek, stylish and more traditional sailboats still have the space you need but can sail in near silence with just the sound of the wind and waves as you move along under wind power alone. These can come as something smaller or a 30 metre plus corporate yacht charter too with water toys and a skipper and crew looking after you.

Weather conditions in Thailand:

Luxury yacht charters are best when augmented by great weather. The perfect time for a premium charter in Thailand are:

North East Monsoon - November to April: Thanks to being on the Equator the winds in Thailand never get too strong in the sailing season. Expects winds of F2-4 from the NE and it to be generally dry.

Southwest Monsoon - May to October: This is the rainy season in this part of the world. Between May and July, expect winds up to F6 and changeable, and rain anything from every afternoon (or none at all) to solidly for your two weeks. Between July and October this is storm season with cyclones hitting the country and rain being almost guaranteed.

When to Visit Thailand

Held at the Royal Phuket Marina every April, the Thailand Yacht Show is a rival to the Monaco Yacht Show in terms of location and choice of luxury yacht. Thanks to new laws permitting foreign flagged superyachts, the Thailand YachtShow on Phuket attracts exhibitors from all over the world as a premier superyacht show and is supported by the Thai Yachting Business Association and Asia Marine. You may wish to sail aboard a classic yacht or more modern vessel - there are a selection of Asia Pacific superyachts that you can choose from, including Thailand charter yachts and foreign flagged superyachts.

The peak season is the northern hemisphere winter holidays of December. November to April is when the weather is at its calmest. The reverse of the medal is that it is also at its most crowded, which with the humidity and furnace like heat can be a bit of a challenge. If this is your idea of fun - from hedonism to the crowds - then you may most enjoy it around the Christmas holidays - a perfect dose of winter sun.

You will not be able to sail to the Similan Islands in the off-season though as the sailing can be too exciting and no crewed yacht charter company will take you there.
