The Customer Service was excellent! E-Mails were always answered quickly and very friendly!
A very professional, pleasant experience. We received great advice and had a trouble free holiday!
Very responsive and helpful. Found us a boat when I couldn’t find one anywhere else.
We had a great week in the Greek Dodecanese. The staff at borrowboat were very good and everything was very well organised. The boat, a Jeanneau 519, was very well equipped and very well maintained. I would definitely recommend borrowboat
We chartered a hanse 575 in turkey over borrow a boat and I must point out that the service was amazing. Ever open question was quickly answered and I never had to wait long for a reply. Also the payment handling went smooth. All in all a very good experience for renting a yacht. Will definitely consider using them next time again.
The service I received from Elsa was very good indeed. I required a yacht at short notice and and they found a good yacht at a good price. The owner of the boat was responsive and despite a few problems he did his very best to assist and resolve the few minor issues. I will certainly consider using borrowaboat in the future.

I have been renting my boat through Borrow A Boat for the last two years. I never thought I would rent out my boat but we met Matt and the team at the Poole Harbour Boat Show and they explained the surprisingly simple process. Once we’d spoken to a surveyor to understood the costs of getting her coded we decided to give it a go. We’ve had a lot of fun since and for the first time in years of boat ownership I’m actually able to cover the costs of owning the boat. We actually chartered with Borrow A Boat last year to get some sunshine in Sardinia which we never would have done if we hadn’t saved so much cash through chartering. On top of that I get a lot of satisfaction from getting people’s feedback and hearing about the brilliant experiences they’ve had out on the water - when people are grateful it really makes all the difference. Since we’d had some enquiries for skippered charters I even decided to get my commercial tickets so that I can take people out. It’s been marvelous - the boat is in the best condition it’s been in and I wouldn’t want to be without the extra safety kit we had to buy and now I’m a much more accomplished boater. We’d recommend it to anyone!

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
The busiest time to hire a yacht is in the July/August high season in the UK and Mediterranean. Most locations outside of school holidays will be cheaper and less busy. If you fancy a winter break then try the Caribbean...
Yes, you will have to pay a deposit on making the booking with the yacht charter company. Before heading out to sea you will pay a refundable security deposit on the yacht with a credit card but this can be covered by insurance that you can buy ahead of the trip.
As ever, if at sea and in danger you should call the Coastguard for help via Ch16 on VHF. If you can make it to your yacht charter destination safely do so, also call the yacht charter company for advice as they will always be there to help.
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and what will your itinerary be along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
If you want to sail without a skipper (bareboat yacht charter) then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC) and the ASA 104 Bareboat certificate - the rules vary in different destinations and boat types so please clarify this with the boat owner if you aren't sure. Small 'day boats' typically don't require licences and are referred to as 'self-drive'.
Sailing yachts start from around £1,000 per week, with canal and riverboats starting at the same price depending on where you are in the season. If you fancy treating yourself then luxury motorboats and superyachts are also available. Most boat types are typically available with or without a skipper.
