Why a Superyacht Charter

A France yacht charter can be one of two yacht charter vacation experiences - cruising the French Riviera and its fashionable resort towns and cities, or exploring the Atlantic coastline and beautiful beaches of the Bay of Biscay and English Channel. Let’s take a look at where you can visit on your yacht rental.

There are two broad yacht charter destinations you can enjoy on a France luxury yacht charter. Let’s take a look at them below.

Côte d'Azur

Stretching between the Pyrenees and Monte Carlo on the Western Med, including the French Riviera, the South of France is a charter destination like no other.

Saint Tropez is the centre of the action with a reputation that speaks for itself. Pampelonne Beach, just outside of St Tropez, is where tourists flock in large numbers, whether on the private beach club sections or in the free to use main Pampelonne Beach. The harbour and bay just offshore is festooned with luxury motor yachts and classic sailing yachts in the sailing season, and you will find plenty to enjoy in the Vieux Port area with Michelin starred restaurants, top quality boutiques and all the things someone of high net worth could enjoy ashore.

There are plenty of other places to enjoy on a French Riviera yacht charter too, even before you reach the principality of Monaco. Cannes is the centre of the movie universe every summer, and Antibes has Billionaire’s Quay at Port Vauban Marina for the largest superyachts afloat.

Home of the Monaco Grand Prix, Monte Carlo is possibly even more famous for the well to do than Saint Tropez! Whether attending the annual Monaco Grand Prix and the whirl of social occasions around it, or flying in to the Monaco Yacht Show to choose a superyacht with the help of a charter broker ahead of the next sailing season, there are plenty of excuses to drop by the principality! For those who want to chill out a bit, nearby St Jean Cap Ferrat is a very popular bolthole - you will almost certainly see other superyachts anchored off the coast as their users relax away from the buzz of Monte Carlo too.

Atlantic Coast - Brittany and Normandy

While many planning a luxury yacht charter may automatically think of the French Riviera as a charter destination, France’s Atlantic coastline has plenty to offer too.

The Bay of Biscay has some of the best sailing conditions in France and is home to many bases for extreme round the world yachting such as Lorient and Les Sables d’Olonne. You may be in the area in November every fourth year to see off the Vendee Globe fleet or in July two years later to see off the Golden Globe fleet, or simply wish to get away from the extreme heat of the Western Med yet enjoy luxury yachting in Western Europe.

The other region of France to enjoy on a superyacht charter is Normandy. Le Havre is the main city but you can sail to other locations such as St Malo, the Channel Islands (outside EU waters but a popular sailing destination) and the historic city of Cherbourg.

Further Afield

Your superyacht charter France can take you further afield too. Perhaps out of Port Hercule in Monte Carlo you may wish to sail east to the Italian Riviera, or even SE as far as the Amalfi Coast and Aeolian Islands of Southern Italy. Still within EU waters, these are reachable on some luxury motor yachts over a two week luxury yacht charter.

Sailing from the Atlantic coast of France, you can also take in the UK South Coast and even London on a France yachtcharter. Part of Western Europe, the country is outside EU waters but the charter broker will sort out any bureaucracy as part of the package.

Superyacht Charter France

With your luxury charter yacht as a base, the crew will look after your needs while you focus on fun and relaxation. On your sailing yacht or motor yacht you can access isolated, sandy beaches inaccessible to others in quiet coves or islands such as the Lerins Islands off Cannes.

You can go ashore at different locations to enjoy socialising and the best restaurants in St Tropez or Port Grimeaud and then perhaps disappear to rebalance off a quiet retreat like St Jean Cap Ferrat the next. Often the boat charter will carry water toys such as a motor boat, windsurfing gear and jet skis for you to blast around a quiet bay and have fun out of the sight and sound of others.

A French superyacht charter is best enjoyed in the summer months between May and September with the peak season in July and August on your sailing yacht or motor yacht luxury charter yacht.

A France luxury crewed yacht charter is one of the safest, most luxurious and most convenient ways to travel and enjoy beautiful locations from the quiet of the Hyeres Islands to the buzz of Monte Carlo on your yacht charter holiday.

Types of Superyacht charter

Here are a selection of charter yachts that you may choose from to enjoy on your Italy superyacht charter holiday, whether on a bareboat charter basis or crewed yacht charter yacht rental basis. Connect with the yacht owner or chartercompany through us today to arrange your France superyacht charter!

Whether sailing yachts or power catamarans, these have a wide beam and shallow draft and make for spacious and comfortable luxury yachts. Even the smaller vessels (15m LOA and up) will have en suite heads in the cabins, and can often carry water toys like jet skis and paddleboards aboard. You can have a crewed catamaran charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel and what you want from a yacht charter vacation.

Motor Yacht

From a catamaran to a luxury motor yacht charter these are faster and often have far more space. Expect a more comfortable, premium experience on motor yacht, ranging from a mini cruiser to top end superyacht charter vessels. You can have crewed yacht charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel with the skipper and crew looking after you.

The larger crewed yachts are often available on a corporate yacht charter or bespoke yacht charter basis as a means of escaping to an out of the way place without distraction. A luxury charter yacht like this will have water toys such as a speed boat, jet ski and diving equipment so you can enjoy water sports even without having to go ashore.

Sailing Yacht

Whether a classic racing yacht or more modern cruiser racer sailing yacht, these sleek, stylish and more traditional sailboats still have the space you need but can sail in near silence with just the sound of the wind and waves as you move along under wind power alone. These can come as something smaller or a 30 metre plus private luxury charteryacht too with water toys and a skipper and crew looking after you on your bespoke yacht charter.

Weather conditions in France:

Luxury yacht charters are best when augmented by great weather. The perfect time for a premium charter in France are:

Early Season (May to June) - expect cooler temperatures but the odd blast from the NE Mistral.

Peak Season (July and August) - Generally lighter winds and can be fiercely hot

Late Season (September and early October) - Many classic sailing regattas take place at this time of the year as winds can be more reliable. It is far cooler than the high summer.

When to Visit France

One of the best classic yacht regattas in the world is Les Voiles St Tropez in late September to early October where you may see the elegant J-Class yachts doing as they were intended - engaged in fierce racing! Whether racing the luxurycharter yacht itself, or just enjoying the buzz in the Vieux Port ashore, this is a premier social occasion for sailing types.

July and August are when the marinas are at their busiest and most expensive. It is very crowded, even out on the islands. Most of the social events are at their best at this time of year though and the buzz is a good one.

For those after a quieter time after the crowds have gone, try to visit France in September. The seas are bath-warm still and the sun is comfortably - not fiercely - warm. Though many shoreside establishments close, it can be a more authentic side to France.
