Superyacht charter Antigua and Barbuda

A superyacht charter in Antigua is always unforgettable, whether cruising around the island sampling fresh local dishes created by your chef, or taking an excursion ashore to some of the 365 beaches on a crewed yacht charter. Book your superyacht charter Antigua and Barbuda today!

Why a Superyacht Charter

With its super luxury resorts and some of the best beaches in the Eastern Caribbean, the Leeward Island of Antigua is one of the top destinations for those on a super yacht charter.

Whether browsing the boutiques of Nelsons Dockyard, racing on the Caribbean Sea at Antigua Sailing Week, or having a perfect beach barbecue on a deserted beach at Nonsuch Bay, an Antigua yacht charter offers it all!

Destinations

An Antigua super yacht charter can easily take in all the best sights of the island over a week - or you can on to other Leeward and Windward Islands.

You may begin your super yacht charter from Falmouth Harbour Marina or Nelsons Dockyard Marina and head east-about the island. At the entrance to Nelsons Dockyard you will discover one of the best beaches on the south coast, Galleon Beach where many come by sea to relax between hanging out and enjoying the buzz of the shops, restaurants and boutiques. Galleon Beach is certainly a taster of things to come.

Rounding Antigua past Freetown you will hit Nonsuch Bay. With its top end resort there is plenty to enjoy ashore but many on a crewed yacht charter end up landing on one of the beaches at Green Island, which is a challenge to navigate to without an experienced skipper thanks to the reef but is well worth the effort as a charter destination. Many who visit find the glorious isolation of Green Island compelling!

On the way to Jumby Bay Island (Long Island) you may alight at Great Bird Island, another private island like Green island that is a protected habitat for a range of birds such as the Frigate bird and the only snake that is endemic to Antigua. The beaches are again, a delicious escape compared to Dickenson Bay that we will touch on later.

Jumby Bay is a private island owned and kept by its owner residents. Its ecology is maintained carefully including the hawksbill turtles that hatch here, and a variety of fauna and flora endemic to the island. There are private residences, that you can get to by bicycle or golf cart since there are no cars here.

Moving onto the north coast, heading towards Saint John's you will see Dickenson Bay, the most developed beach on the island. You may alight at the six-star Sandals Grande Antigua resort that is regularly voted the top honeymoon resort in the world thanks to its unutterly romantic location, and facilities such as its spa and water sports activities that come as part of your stay.

St John's is a classic Caribbean capital township with lots of colonial architecture and a good buzz about it. After a couple of evenings of pleasant quiet you may need a fix of human contact in St John's and there is plenty to be had with its bars, restaurants and shops.

Leaving St John's you will come to Deep Bay. Deep Bay is a misnomer as you can wade quite a way in, though you will have to swim around the sunken sailing ship in the middle - this has been colonised by corals and is a great snorkelling location.

The west coast, facing the nearby Leeward island of Montserrat, has the private resort and marina development of Jolly Harbour. A major stop on Antigua Sailing Week, this has an excellent marina and the obligatory shops, bars, restaurants and boutiques. If (as many do) you wish to return there are villas here for purchase too!

Perhaps pausing to enjoy some reef diving or snorkelling as you go, you may want to land at the luxurious resorts of Carlisle Bay or Rendezvous Bay on the SW of the island as you head back to English Harbor. Rendezvous Bay has 80 detached residences spread over 50 acres of protected national parkland and is a bolthole for those who want to switch off from the world.

Leeward Islands: At less than 20 miles long, Antigua can be sailed around in just a few days - or fewer in a good wind! You may wish to sail NW up the Leeward island chain towards the Virgin Islands. Over a few days you can experience the glorious isolation of St Barths or the wild fun of St Maarten, and then a heady mix of both in the British Virgin islands. Famed for their Full Moon Parties and top quality resorts, the British Virgin Islands are an escape in their own right.

At the end of your sailing trip from Antigua you may wish to sail to the US Virgin Islands. These are a mix of quiet beauty (St John) and cosmopolitan fun (Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas for example).

Windward Islands: Heading SE from Antigua you will reach the French Antilles of Guadeloupe, Dominica and Martinique, and then on to St Lucia and St Vincent. These have their colonial pasts and whether enjoying a cafe au lait with a croissant in the morning at Le Marin or with a sore head and muzzy memories of the night before at Rodney Bay Marina, you will soon have a variety of sights and sounds that make a Caribbean super yacht charter one of the best sailing holidays money can buy!

Types of Luxury Yacht charter

Here are a selection of charter yachts that you may choose from to enjoy on your Antigua luxury yacht charter holiday, whether on a bareboat charter basis or crewed yacht charter yacht rental basis. Connect with the yacht owner or chartercompany through us today to arrange your Antigua and Barbuda yacht charter!

Catamaran

Whether sailing yachts or power catamarans, these have a wide beam and shallow draft and make for spacious and comfortable luxury yachts. Even the smaller vessels (15m LOA and up) will have en suite heads in the cabins, and can often carry water toys like jet skis and paddleboards aboard. You can have a crewed catamaran charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel and what you want from a sailing holiday.

Motor Yacht

From a catamaran to a luxury motor yacht charter these are faster and often have far more space. Expect a more comfortable, premium experience on motor yacht, ranging from a mini cruiser to top end superyacht charter vessels. You can have crewed yacht charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel with the skipper and crew looking after you.

The larger crewed yachts are often available on a individual occupancy cruise or corporate yacht charter basis as a means of escaping to an out of the way place without distraction. These will have water toys such as a speed boat, jet ski and diving equipment so you can enjoy water sports even without having to go ashore.

Sailing Yacht

Whether a classic racing yacht or more modern cruiser racer sailing yacht, these sleek, stylish and more traditional sailboats still have the space you need but can sail in near silence with just the sound of the wind and waves as you move along under wind power alone. These can come as something smaller or a 30 metre plus corporate yacht charter too with water toys and a skipper and crew looking after you.

Weather conditions in Antigua and Barbuda:

Luxury yacht charters are best when augmented by great weather.

Early Season (November): The last of the hurricanes should have gone by now. It will be warm but not uncomfortable in the mid 20s C range. Expect easterlies of 12-15mph. The dry season is beginning but you may get the odd soaking - hardly uncomfortable in such warmth!

Peak Season (December and January): Easterlies again prevail most of the time, building to a fairly constant 15-20mph. The dry season is in full swing so expect little in the way of rain. It will be comfortably warm at around 25 C most of the day.

Late Season (February to May): Winds: easterlies, 25mph fairly steadily. A little rain is to be expected. Temperatures increase to the high 20s C.

A northern hemisphere summer yacht charter vacation is possible. The marinas are cheaper and it can be quieter. However this is approaching hurricane season when the region goes into hibernation. It is hotter and wetter, helping breed stormy weather.

When to Visit Antigua and Barbuda

One way to enjoy an Antigua yacht charter could be the Antigua Charter Yacht Show in December. Hosted at Falmouth Harbour and English Harbor, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show is seen as among the best ways to choose your charter yacht for the summer. For those who love a bit of yacht racing, hosted by Antigua Yacht Club, Antigua Sailing Week in late April/ early May is one of the best sailing events in the Eastern Caribbean.

December and January are when the marinas are at their busiest and most expensive. It can get crowded, even out on the smaller islands. Most of the social events are at their best at this time of year though and the buzz is a good one.

For those after a quieter time after the crowds have gone, try to visit Antigua in May. The crowds have generally gone and the marinas are cheaper. It can be wetter as the wet season kicks in but that could well be worthwhile sacrifice to enjoy the islands of the Leeward Island chain at their most authentic.
