Luxury yacht charter St Lucia

Leisurely cruise around St Lucia and nearby Martinique or a longer Caribbean yacht charter to St Vincent and the Grenadines, a St Lucia yacht charter with Borrow a Boat is going to be an unforgettable experience. Book your luxury yacht charter St Lucia today!

Though you will fly into Hewanorra International Airport on the south of the island, the north-western end of Saint Lucia is where you will likely begin your luxury yacht charter.

With towns like Rodney Bay, Gros Islet and Marigot Bay, this end of the island is an ideal location to begin your Caribbean island yacht charter.

Destinations

Whether a sailing yacht or motor yacht, you may have crew looking after your needs and sailing the vessel between locations as you enjoy your St Lucia yacht charter or can go on a bareboat charter and explore for yourself.

NW of St Lucia: At the northernmost end of the island are Gros Islet and Rodney Bay. Rodney Bay Marina is the destination for many trans-Atlantic trips from the Azores thanks to being a well equipped marina with the facilities well suited for those just off a 2,000 mile journey.

Gros Islet is part of the attraction to Rodney Bay. While Rodney Bay has great shops, restaurants and bars, Gros Islet is where people go to let their hair down. There are street parties and a carnival atmosphere through most of the season.

For those who want to relax a bit (without relaxing by climbing the Piton mountains!), Pigeon Island National Park is a comfortable walk from Gros Islet on the mainland. Pigeon Island was once a haunt of pirates and genuinely an island but in preparing Rodney Bay Marina, so a causeway was built using the ground dug up.

Further to the south on the west coast is Marigot Bay. Not to be confused with the capital of St Martin, this is a deep cove used as a hurricane hole for charter companies in summer. It is also a steep-sided, exclusive resort that was originally made famous in the 1960s film, Dr Doolittle.

Around 10 miles south of Marigot Bay is one of many very good beaches, Anse Chastanet. On your Saint Lucia yachtcharter vacation you may wish to head inland to the Toraille Waterfalls or epic Enbas Saut Waterfalls about five miles inland.

St Vincent and the Grenadines: The next country immediately south of St Lucia is St Vincent and the Grenadines. Site of a recent volcanic eruption that destroyed much of the island's economy, there are plenty of places to enjoy on your yacht charter vacation as it turns to sailing tourism for vital international income. On the main island, the county of St George to the SE is where you will find little jewels like the Young Island private resort.

South of Young Island and into the Grenadines, you soon reach Bequia. Admiralty Bay with its beaches and snorkeling is a very popular spot here, and well worth dropping your hook to enjoy the first island south of Saint Vincent.

The Eastern Caribbean island of Mayreau may well be your next stop on your St Lucia luxury yacht charter. Salt Whistle Bay is less protected than Admiralty bay but still a great place to enjoy an evening at anchor. This is part of the Tobago Cay Marine National Park and a very good first Tobago Cay to enjoy before heading to the uninhabited islands nearby.

After the Tobago Cays, Clifton on Union Island - another favourite of Caribbean island hoppers - and then you can visit either the private Palm Island or Petit St Vincent - both enjoyable little interludes on your luxury yacht charter St Lucia.

Leeward islands: Heading north from the Windward Island of St Lucia to the Leeward Islands you may wish to visit Le Marin on Martinique, a short sail north of Rodney Bay. This has a well equipped marina that also welcomes trans-atlantic oceansailors and is the main water sports and tourism region on the island.

On a longer yacht charter, perhaps with crew handling the longer legs, you can sail to Antigua, St Martin, St Bart and even the British Virgin Islands. Not a long sail from the British Virgin Islands are the United States Virgin Island chain of St John, St Thomas and to the south, St Croix.

Luxury Yacht Charter St Lucia

With your luxury charter yacht as a base, the crew will look after your needs while you focus on fun and relaxation. Gros Islet with its riot of beach, water and shoreside attractions is one of those places where getting aboard your sailingyacht or motor yacht can be a relief after time ashore!

With the luxury charter yacht as a base you can go ashore at different locations to enjoy socialising and the best restaurants ashore at Le Marin and then perhaps disappear to relbalance off a quiet island like Pigeon Island National Park the next. Often the boat charter will carry water toys such as speed boats and jet skis for you to blast around a quiet bay and have fun out of the sight and sound of others.

A St Lucia yacht charter is best enjoyed in the winter months between November and April with December being the peak season. The weather is reliably warm, and the sea breezes can make for some great times on a sailing yacht or catamaran.

A luxury crewed St Lucia yacht rental is one of the safest, most luxurious and most convenient ways to travel and enjoy beautiful locations from the fun of Gros Islet to laid back and beautiful Anse Chastanet.

Types of Luxury Yacht charter

Here are a selection of charter yachts that you may choose from to enjoy on your Saint Lucia boat rental, whether on a bareboat charter basis or crewed yacht charter basis.

Catamaran

Whether a sailing catamaran or power catamaran, these have a wide beam and shallow draft and make for spacious and comfortable luxury yachts. Even the smaller vessels (15m LOA and up) will have en suite heads in the staterooms, and can often carry water toys like jet skis and paddleboards aboard. You can have a crewed catamaran charter or bareboat charter depending on the size of vessel and what you want from a sailing holiday.

Motor Boat

Whether a catamaran or luxury motor yacht these are faster and often have far more space. Expect a more comfortable, premium experience on these top end charter vessels. You can have crewed yachts or bareboat charter here too.

Sailing Yacht

Whether a classic racing yacht or a more modern cruiser racer sailing boat, these sleek, stylish and more traditional vessels still have the space you need but can sail in near silence with just the sound of the wind and waves as you move along under wind power alone.

Gulet

Great for larger groups, gulets are traditional crewed yachts and sailing or motor yachts that are ideal bases for a Caribbean yacht charter.

Weather conditions in Saint Lucia:

Luxury yacht charters are best when augmented by great weather. The perfect time for a premium charter in St Lucia are:

Early Season (November): The last of the hurricanes should have gone by now. It will be warm but not uncomfortable in the mid 20s C range. Expect easterlies of 12-15mph. The dray season is beginning but you may get the odd soaking - hardly uncomfortable in such warmth!

Peak Season (December and January): Easteries again prevail most of the time, building to a fairly constant 15-20mph. The dry season is in full swing so expect little in the way of rain. It will be comfortably warm at around 25 C most of the day.

Late Season (February to March): Winds: easterlies, 25mph fairly steadily. A little rain is to be expected. Temperatures increase to the high 20s C.

A northern hemisphere summer yacht charter vacation is possible. The marinas are cheaper and it can be quieter. However this is approaching hurricane season when the Caribbean goes into hibernation. It is hotter and wetter, helping breed stormy weather.

When to Visit St Lucia

For those who enjoy yachting events, the ARC Race ends in Rodney Bay in November. For those who aren't into crossing oceans, the Mango Bown keelboat regatta is the island's premier sailing event at the end of November.

December and January are when the marinas are at their busiest and most expensive. It is very crowded, even out on the islands. Most of the social events are at their best at this time of year though and the buzz is a good one.

For those after a quieter time after the crowds have gone, try to visit Saint Lucia in April. The crowds have generally gone and the marinas are cheaper. It can be wetter as the wet season kicks in but that could well be worthwhile sacrifice to enjoy the islands of the Caribbean Sea at their most authentic.
