Trogir Yacht Charter

Founded by the ancient Greeks over 2,000 years ago, Trogir is an island town on the Adriatic coast close to the Mediterranean city of Split. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-see for those interested in what makes Croatia tick.

On the coast of Central Dalmatia, the ancient Old Town has seen empires and civilisations pass through the Millennia, and this is reflected in its architecture and sights you will see on the small island that is just 500 metres long by 200 wide.

St John's Square is the main centre of the Mediterranean town, and from there you can explore the churches, castles and Kamerlengo Fortress of the Old Town, just a short walk across Trogir Bridge from the modern, mainland city. Ciovo Island is just the other side of the strait with its modern facilities, beaches and two of the main marinas in the greater Trogir area.

Explore Trogir By Renting A Yacht

ACI Trogir Marina is one of the main bases for those on a Trogir yacht charter, though there are two other large marinas within a couple of kilometres of downtown.

There's more to Trogir than a small island, do get out to Ciovo Island to the south west of the islet across the bridge, a Dalmatian island where you can enjoy the beaches and restaurants of the wider area.

A sail on the Adriatic Sea from Trogir could take in a number of the major sights Dalmatia has on offer including a run to the nearby Kornati Islands and their national park, the Split & Dubrovnik Archipelago that includes the party town of Hvar, and a visit to the historic city of Split.

How To Get To Trogir

The main airport serving the town is Split, just across the bay from Trogir, which takes flights from a number of cities around Europe and the rest of the world.

From Split you have a choice - in the summer months you can take a ferry across the bay to Trogir with 4-6 sailings a day. This might be a good way to get a taste for the Dalmatian coast before your sailing holiday gets underway.

It does however only take half an hour to get to Trogir from Split Bus Terminal around the bay by the Number 37 bus. These run every half hour or so through the day or you can simply take a taxi.

There are three major marinas serving Trogir, these are ACI Marina Trogir, Marina Trogir and Marina Baotic. Two of them have large luxury yacht berths thanks to their draught limits, though all can take up to 30 metre vessels, hardly small for a sailing yacht.

Suggested Sailing Routes From Trogir

Trogir is the perfect jumping off point for exploring the Split & Dubrovnik Islands by sailing yacht, motor yacht or catamaran, one of the best archipelagos in the Adriatic. A sail on through the islands and along the Dalmatian Coast is something you will never forget.

Trogir and the Split & Dubrovnik archipelago circular: The Split & Dubrovnik archipelago are some of the most beautiful islands on the Adriatic with national parks and buzzing beach resorts to take in too. Heading as far south east as the Dalmatian island of Zaklopatica on a 155 nautical mile circular you can enjoy some great days sailing and explore some of the natural landscape too.

Trogir to Dubrovnik one way: At just over 130 nautical miles end to end this is an opportunity to idle in bars and wander in national parks while seeing two of Croatia's most beautiful towns. If you can plan a half day ashore, do plan a half day on Korcula Island or the beach resort of Hvar Town. The Pakleti islands have secluded coves and are worth a pause in a quiet anchorage or two as you go.

Trogir to Dubrovnik circular: Some routes head out to Vis Island as a first stop and take in the offshore route out before coming back inshore of the islands on return. Doing no more than 22 nautical miles a day you can enjoy the sailing but go ashore to various Dalmatian island towns and explore inland as you go.

Trogir to Zadar circular: Heading north out of Trogir you can explore the coastline of Croatia and perhaps stop off on the Kornati Islands as you go. These are some of the greatest natural wonders of the Adriatic with a saltwater inland lake and deep forest to explore. You will have to coast hop as you head north - seeing what mainland Croatia has on offer in places like Biograd, the medieval capital of Croatia.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Trogir

The sailing season runs from late April to October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter. The ACI Marina chain also adds 20% to their berthing fees at this time of year. If you can charter outside of the peak period you will find it quieter and less expensive. The climate is mild most of the sailing season with occasional rain showers.

April and May: There will be occasional rainy days but temperatures sit between 22-28C or higher. Winds are generally NW, 10-20 knots

June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat! Temperatures are from 26C and up to the mid-30s. Wind is generally NW 5-10 knots

September-October: In this part of the world it rains more in October and the temperature falls away to 10 degrees C in the evenings, though it can get up to a comfortable 20C on an autumn day. Winds can get up to 20 knots.
