The service offered by the Borrow A Boat team and was seamless and Angelo (the charter yacht owner) knew all the best places to cruise around the island. We arrived, jumped on board, received a quick induction and safety overview and set sail, good fun, no hassle! Would definitely use again.
The choice of yachts, even as a last-minute booking, was exactly what we were looking for... I could honestly not fault any aspect of the transaction, great crewed yacht charter with lovely crew. Already looking for the next trip...
I have to say that I was very impressed at the ease with which our last sailing trip was planned with Borrow A Boat. We were quite specific about our requirements but the website made it easy to find the right boat.
Excellent service from Borrowaboat (Alistair) throughout. From finding a luxury motor yacht that suited our needs to tying down the hire with the charter broker. Had a great sailing holiday in Croatia.

Boat Owner Testimonial
I have been renting my boat through Borrow A Boat for the last two years. I never thought I would rent out my boat but we met Matt and the team at a Boat Show and they explained the surprisingly simple process. Once we’d spoken to a surveyor to understand the costs of getting her coded we decided to give it a go. We’ve had a lot of fun since and for the first time in years of boat ownership I’m actually able to cover the costs of owning the boat. We actually chartered with Borrow A Boat last year to get some sunshine in Sardinia which we never would have done if we hadn’t saved so much cash through chartering. On top of that I get a lot of satisfaction from getting people’s feedback and hearing about the brilliant experiences they’ve had out on the water - when people are grateful it really makes all the difference. Since we’d had some enquiries for skippered charters I even decided to get my commercial tickets so that I can take people out. It’s been marvelous - the boat is in the best condition it’s been in and I wouldn’t want to be without the extra safety kit we had to buy and now I’m a much more accomplished boater. We’d recommend it to anyone!

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I consider when hiring a Yacht?
The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.
What are the best times to hire a Yacht?
The busiest time to hire a yacht in the Mediterranean is in the July/August high season. Most locations outside of school holidays will be cheaper and less busy. If you fancy a summer break then try the Caribbean in December, January and February...
Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Yacht?
Yes, you will have to pay a deposit on making the booking with the yacht charter company. Before heading out to sea you will pay a refundable security deposit on the yacht with a credit card but this can be covered by insurance that you can buy ahead of the trip.
What happens if my Yacht breaks down?
As ever, if at sea and in danger you should call the Coastguard for help via Ch16 on VHF. If you can make it to your yacht charter destination safely do so, also call the yacht charter company for advice as they will always be there to help
What should I think of before I hire a Yacht or Boat?
You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and what will your itinerary be along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.
What Qualifications Do I need to hire a boat or yacht?
If you want to sail without a skipper (bareboat yacht charter) then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC) and the ASA 104 Bareboat certificate. Please enquire with the boat owners in the location with which you are hiring a boat to confirm their specific requirements. Small 'day boats' typically don't require licenses.
How much does it cost to charter a yacht or motor boat?
Prices for day boats can be as low as $80 per day. Sailing yachts start from around $200, with canal and riverboats starting at the same price depending on where you are in the season.
