What are the responsibilities of a host?

Updated 30 September 2026 · 1 min read

A host looks after the guests and the boat, so you can relax. The exact tasks depend on the boat and the trip, but a host usually:

  • prepares meals, typically breakfast and a light lunch
  • keeps the boat tidy, with everything in its place and the shared spaces clean
  • helps the skipper with manoeuvres and mooring, for example handling lines when docking

What a host does not do

  • The host does not enter your cabin. Your cabin is your private space.
  • The host does not make your bed in the morning. Fresh bed linen and towels are available on request.

Your host needs meals and a berth too: see Do I need to provision the skipper/crew? and Where does the skipper or crew sleep?
