How much does it cost to charter a yacht?

It depends on the type and size of the boat, the destination and the time of year. As a guide, these are typical prices customers paid for boats booked through Borrow A Boat (the median booking, so half paid less and half paid more):

Boat and durationTypical price
Sailing yacht, one weekaround €2,500
Catamaran, one weekaround €6,000
Sailing yacht, one dayaround €850
Motorboat, one dayaround €1,400
Speedboat, one dayaround €300

Split between the group, a boat is often cheaper than it looks. A sailing yacht for a week typically works out at around €430 per person with six people on board.

What moves the price

  • Season: the high summer is the most expensive time. Spring and early autumn cost less.
  • Destination: in our bookings, weeks in Italy and Greece cost more on average than in Croatia or Spain.
  • Boat: catamarans cost more than sailing monohulls, and larger and newer boats more than smaller and older ones.
  • Skipper or crew: if you can skipper yourself, you save the skipper's fee. A fully crewed charter costs the most.

What is not in the charter price

The price you see online covers the boat and its mandatory extras, such as final cleaning. Your running costs come on top: food and drinks, fuel, and marina fees during the trip. See What costs are included and excluded in the online price?

How to save

  • Book early and use early-booking discounts.
  • Travel outside the high season.
  • Pick a less crowded destination.
  • Consider an older, well-maintained boat.
  • Bring more people: the more guests, the lower the price per person.
