Mandatory extras are costs the charter company charges on top of the boat rental, and you cannot opt out of them. They are always listed in your offer from Borrow A Boat and included in the total price.
Common mandatory extras
- Charter fee: the most common one. It grew out of what used to be called the transit log or final cleaning fee, and today it often covers final cleaning, towels, bed linen and similar items. What exactly it includes depends on the charter company; you find it on the boat's page under extras and equipment.
- Transit log: the older name, still used by some charter companies: final cleaning, the check-out inspection, and often the marina berth on the first and last night. More: What is a transit log?
- Charter package: usually final cleaning, and sometimes cooking gas, towels, bed linen, an outboard engine and other basics. More: What is included in a charter package?
When do I pay them?
In the sailing industry, mandatory extras are usually paid directly to the charter company at the base. Your quote and booking confirmation show which costs you pay in advance and which at the base. See Where, when and how do I have to pay for extras?
Check your booking confirmation
Make sure every extra you discussed when booking is in your booking confirmation. That avoids surprises at the marina.
